Antigone Rising Rocks!

Image
I love Antigone Rising . I saw them in concert this past Thursday at the Iron Horse Music Hall in Northampton. These ladies always put on an amazing show and if you have never listened to any of their music or seen them play in person, I would urge you to do so. They are incredibly talented and extremely personable. Looking forward to seeing your show March 8 th in Boston ladies!

Can I Give You A Hand With That?

Image
My sister hit the switch, the hand did twitch. And suddenly I shouted "it hurts like a bitch!" Then she to which said laughing with a stitch, It looks as though your thumb is going to unhitch! And oh my wrist did start to itch! Yes, the Wizard of Oz is one of my favorite movies. Thank you to the writers of the Muchkin Land Song, lyrics by EH Harburg and music by Harold Arlen.

Is It Cold In Here?

Like a lot of people her age, my mother often feels chilly. So, my family bought her a fleece warm-up jacket for Christmas to help keep her warm around the house. A typical phone conversation with my mother goes like this: Irene: It's cold in the house today. CJ : Why don't you put on that fleece jacket we gave you. That will keep you warm. Irene: I don't want to wreck it. I'm saving it for best. CJ : How are you going to wreck it? We'll buy you another one if you spill something on it. Irene: I had a big lunch today. I was driving home from work one evening this week, thinking about an errand I had to do and how it was going to be cold out. Then I remembered my nieces had bought me a Springfield College hooded sweatshirt for Christmas that I had not worn yet. Because I did not want to wreck it. It's white and I am afraid I will spill something on it so I'm saving it for some unknown occasion. Oh shit.

Who's That On Your Back?

In honor of tonight's 80th Academy Awards, I feel obligated to answer the following: Who am I wearing? Pants by Vermont Flannels, a T-shirt from some vendor in Faneuil Hall, and Wicked Good Slippers from L.L. Bean. Yes, a fashion plate I know. I'm ready for my close-up.

An Email With A Twist

When sending email from work, it is a good idea to tell the recipient to remove your address if she intends on forwarding it. I got an email today with an attached video about lemons and how disease producing bacteria live on the rinds and ultimately end up in your drink. The originator of this piece, whom I shall call Ms. Lemon, is someone who works for the State of Alabama DOT. Wouldn't she be interested to know that her email went from person to person and eventually wound up in Massachusetts in the hands of someone she never met. I thought she would be. So I emailed her back: From: Ms Lemons Sent: Tuesday, February 12, 2008 11:09 AM Subject: Drinks with Lemons I'll be re-thinking the whole lemon thing!!EWWWWWWW! Nasty. Martini Cartwheels to Ms. Lemons Me too Ms. Lemons. That's just nasty. Do you think it affects limes as well? Thanks for passing that along! I am patiently awaiting her response.

For Here Or To Go?

The question of the week is: If you were on death row, what would you choose for your last meal? This question is obviously more important if you live in Texas or Florida. Here in Massachusetts it's a pretty safe bet we won't ever have to ponder this but it's something to think about just in case.

It Gets The Hose Again

I get a lot of nasty spam sent to my work email. Below is one of the most recent. If I could respond to the person that sent it, it might go something like this: Message ID Sender Subject Size(Bytes) Date Info Multiple Recipients 178915888 lorri-splosivo1suchmaschine Unlease that watering hose inside your pants 1434 2008-02-09 13:03:00 Potential Spam Dear Jerky, The watering hose is fine. I have put it away in the garage for the winter. Never did like storing it in my pants. I kept tripping on the end that went past the bottom of my jeans. Plus I didn't like getting my drawers wet if someone accidently turned it on. The weed whacker and leaf blower are good too and they say hello. Sincerely, CJ

Dessert Anyone?

Image
The question of the day at work was "if you were a dessert, what would you be?" My cubemate, JLo, said she would be a cupcake with pastel frosting and a cherry on top. Small and cute, just like her. My buddy Vo said he would be ice cream. JLo and I decided he would be mint chocolate chip, smooth and cool. JLo then declared our manager to be Boston Cream Pie, because it's soft in the middle. I thought I would be lady fingers. But after some consideration, I changed my choice to pecan pie. Sweet and nutty. So my friends, what would you be?

Have You Seen Us Follow-Up

Image
Regarding the previous post - I 've identified the woman in the picture as Debra Jackson. So for those of you interested in picking up a similar swim suit, you now know where you can get one.

Have You Seen Us?

Image
I don't think these people are from Massashusetts. If they were, the woman would be wearing a Red Sox bikini instead of the Stars and Bars and she would be holding a Dunkin Donuts coffee. Who are these people and why are they making there way across the internet? Whenever somebody sends me this, I can't get the music "Dueling Banjos" from the movie Deliverance out of my head. Ba na na na na na na na na.

You Graduated From Where?

While cleaning up some of the school names in a database at work, I came across an interesting entry. I thought it may be a typo so I did an online search when I got home. Dyke College in Cleveland, OH appears to be or have been a real institution. Can you imagine the cheers at the sporting events? "We are Dykes and we couldn't be prouder! And if you can't hear us will yell a little louder!" Or how about "Sack that quarter back, here comes the Dyke attack!". And who doesn't love "Around the rim and sink it in! Go Dykes!"

Bye Bye Mitt

I had the misfortune of turning on the car radio just as Romney's exit speech was being aired. The development of a child is enhanced by having a mother and father. Such a family is the ideal for the future of the child and for the strength of a nation.I wonder how it is that unelected judges, like some in my state of Massachusetts, are so unaware of this reality, so oblivious to the millennia of recorded history. It is time for the people of America to fortify marriage through constitutional amendment, so that liberal judges cannot continue to attack it! I wanted to shove sharp sticks into my ears and pierce my eardrums to stop the noise. Instead, I listened as he ranted about family values, morality, and my apparent lack of both. And then I smiled, for the reason of the speech was a joyous occassion. Mitt was out.

On Your Mark, Get So, Go!

I have a an application going live this weekend, which means I will be spending way too much time working in Boston and not enough time blogging this week. I did make the rounds yesterday visiting all my favorites. Sorry I was unable to leave any comments. I left the house at 5:15 AM and did not return until after 8:00 PM (small violins should start playing now) and so my brain was mush by the time I go to the computer. Hopefully I can sneak in a few posts this week that will be as fascinating and captivating as this one which I would rate about as fun as watching paint dry.

Let's Go Out For One

Image
Bottles and cups and cans, oh my. Note to Self: It's a bad idea to go out with the fishees when you have somewhere to be at 10:30 the next morning. Especially when the next morning is Super Bowl Sunday. And your buddy has invented something she calls the "Tom Brady Martini" and you are going to her house to watch the game. Danger Will Robinson, danger.

Snow Spider

Image
Prints in the snow in my backyard - not made by the dogs (they don't have access to this area in the winter). Was it 6 one-legged cats? Perhaps 3 cats with a wide stance tapping their feet? Did something get stuck in the pool last fall, mutate, and crawl out from under the cover?
